DONATE YOUR HISTORY TO IBHM

Family Collage (2).png

Donating your oral family history and artifacts to the Illinois Black History Museum is a meaningful way to contribute to the preservation and celebration of Black history in Illinois. Here are some steps you can take to donate artifacts:

Contact the Museum: Reach out to the Illinois Black History Museum directly through their official website or contact information. They will provide guidance on their donation process, including any specific criteria or preferences they may have for accepting artifacts.

Provide Information: Be prepared to describe the artifacts you wish to donate in detail. This includes their historical significance, provenance (if known), and any relevant documentation or stories associated with them.

Evaluate Condition: Ensure that the artifacts are in good condition and suitable for preservation. If needed, the museum may request additional information or photos to assess the artifacts before accepting them.

Transfer of Ownership: Discuss the legal aspects of transferring ownership of the artifacts to the museum. This may involve signing a donation agreement or deed of gift, which formally transfers ownership and outlines any conditions related to the donation.

Celebrate Your Contribution: Once the artifacts are accepted, take pride in knowing that your donation will contribute to educating and inspiring others about the rich history and cultural contributions of Black communities in Illinois.

By following these steps and working closely with the museum staff, you can ensure that your donation of artifacts to the Illinois Black History Museum makes a positive impact.
